The resort is set in the Aragon valley; it is surrounding by stunning scenery. Astun is an important area for Spanish snow sports. Many national competitions have been held here, including the European Cup. The resort has tremendous capacity; it can hold over 15,000 skiers per hour. It has some fine quality descents, none of them shorter than 3 kilometres.
In total, the resort has 27 slopes covering an area of 37 kilometres. There is a wide range of descents ranging from difficult to simple. The area is suitable for all levels.
For beginners, there are two green slopes. It has seven blue slopes, which would be described as “easy”. The twelve red slopes go under the “medium” category and the six black slopes go under “difficult”. The slopes here in the Pyrenees are not as tought as in the Alps, so it is a good place learn.
Astun also has a snowboard slope. There are 26 lifts in total; 11 draglifts and 5 chair lifts. The resort has artificial slopes; it’s possible to go skiing all throughout the season.
Astun has over 50 qualified instructors on site. Individual ski and snowboard lessons cost around twenty five euros per hour. It’s better to get group lessons, as reductions are available. If you are in a group of 7–10 people, it only costs 12 euros. Another option is to purchase a weekly ticket.
There are many places to stay in Astun. Accommodation ranges from hotels to individual apartments. It’s best to book in advance, as it gets busy during peak season. Two popular choices are the Hotel Europa and Hoserval apartments.
The resort has numerous facilities including: cafes, bars, nightclubs, supermarkets, swimming pools, gyms, saunas and a nursery. It has a large parking lot that can hold over 2,500 vehicles. |
