Canias belongs to the Jaca municipality and is 79 km away from Huesca. It is located at an altitude of 855 ms. In the early 1990s it had a population of only 37 people.
San Pedro is its most well known feature. This is another church of Romanesque style. It’s apse stands out quite considerably and the round arch door displays an image of Jaca.
Canias has various relics and reminders of the past. Apart from the church, the fountain and the bakery are probably the two most well known. The fountain, with its quaint drinking trough and washing place, has become popular with visitors to the town. The small bakery has a curious feature. Once the ashes from the bread stoves were cooled, they would be used to do the washing. |
