There are plenty of places here to go rafting and kayaking in and around Jaca in the Pyrenees. Noguera Pallares is the most popular river in the area for this activity. Instructors are available and they can provide you with all the right equipment.

Basically, it involves descending the powerful rapids of the Noguera Pallaresa in a rubber dinghy, using oars to steer away from the rocks and move you along. The boats used (zodiac type), are very safe and have a great resistance to the blows.

The capacity is normally between six to eight people, who sit on the edges of the boat and hold on for life, as it braves the rapids. The two people at the front look out for obstacles and guide it in the right direction. Their job is to plot the course with the oar and to give the necessary instructions to the rest of the group to advance the boat down river down.

At first it might seem like a dangerous sport, but it’s not really. Falling into the water won’t do you much harm. You will be well equipped with helmet, life jacket, full wet suit and neoprone boots. There is always an experienced instructor on board that knows how to interpret the river perfectly.
