The village of Candanchu sits on the French-Spanish border, right in the heart of the Pyrenees Mountains. Candanchu is less "touristy" then other resorts. Many of the slopes were designed for expert skiers and these are the kind of people who come here. It is an excellent place to go skiing and the scenery is beautiful.
In total, Astun and Candanchu have around 90 kilometres of pistes. Some of the black runs can be quite tough; challenging by any standards.
Many Spaniards come here just for the weekend. You will also find small groups of faithful Europeans and Americans that come back every year. People come here to ski; Candanchu has some great skiing and isn’t as commercial as most resorts.
Candanchu has 48 slopes in total: green – 9, blue – 8, red –14, black – 17. It also has 25 lifts (19 drag lifts and 6 chair lifts).
In Candanchu, there is a wide range of cross-country trails to choose from. These are suitable all skiers, whatever their level. There is also a half pipe, ski jump and a snow park.
This is the place to go if you are looking for some hard skiing. The slopes can be quite short, but the off piste skiing is intense. Candanchu is the place for top skiers.
There are numerous facilities here in Candanchu: restaurants, cafes, bars, nightclub, ski school (with 95 instructors), nursery, and also a sauna and massage area - perfect for aching muscles, after a long day.
Finding accommodation here shouldn’t be a problem. There are at least three hotels, one aparthotel, a hostel and four youth hostels. In the surrounding areas, there are many self-catering options to choose from. If you can’t find it in Candanchu, try Jaca, which is only 15 minutes south by car. |
